Fifteen students of Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) were offered jobs by multi-national companies (MNCs) on the first day of the placements at the institute.
Talking about the offers received by students, Prof Saswat Bandopadhyay, head, environmental planning department and chairperson of placement committee, said, "Of the 132 students who have come for placements, around 15 have received job offers on day one of the placements. Among the companies that have offered jobs, GIFT and Atkins have offered employment opportunities to five students while GEC has offered jobs to two students."
Prof Bandopadhyay further added, "The highest package offered till now has been Rs6.5 lakh and the average salary package ranges from Rs4.5 to Rs4.8 lakh. This is definitely an increase from last year when the highest package offered was Rs6 lakh and the average salary package was Rs4.5 lakh."
Last year, 25 companies had come for the recruitment process. This year, 35 companies have walked in to find good employees and will visit the campus from February 20 to 28.
In addition to the streams - urban and regional planning, housing, environmental planning, infrastructure planning and industrial area planning and management - students of two new streams - urban transportation planning and management and rural planning and management - will be sitting for placements.
Companies coming this year include Parsons Brinckerhoff, IL&FS, GIFT City, WS Atkins, JLL - (realty), Alpha G Corp (realty), GVK (handling Mumbai airport), GMR (handling Hyderabad, New Delhi and Maldives airport), Auroville, Directorate of Urban Land Transportation (DULT) — government of Karnataka, GEC, GIDB, GIDC and Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) among others. Among these, DULT, GVK, GMR, WS Atkins, IL&FS, GIFT city and Auroville are first time recruiters.
