The Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has accused the Sri Lankan government of handing over prime land to multinational companies and trying to set up a casino zone in Colombo.
JVP Propaganda Secretary and parliamentarian Vijitha Herath told a press conference today that the government was planning on creating a casino zone in D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha in Colombo.
According to Herath, the government's move to hand over land to multinational companies was a betrayal similar to that committed by the signing of the Kandyan Convention in 1815.
The opposition United National Party last year alleged that a casino was being operated illegally on D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha. After the allegation was made in parliament last year, the respective casino was raided by the police.
